NASSA’s experienced and skilled coaches, who come from the same communities as the young people they support, offer one-to-one sensitive and confidential mentoring on a daily basis, if needed. They give young people the opportunity to develop their skills and gain qualifications in sports coaching, officiating and in First Aid. NASSA is an incredibly diverse organisation. Our young people speak a total of 151 different languages and dialects between them.
Every year,
- NASSA runs over 2,000 hours of basketball/multi-sport sessions for 1,000 different young people; we have qualified over 600 young people as basketball coaches since 2015.
- Over 5,000 young people in east London attend at least one Carry A Basketball Not A Blade (CABNAB) talk/workshop on the dangers of knife crime, county lines activity and gang membership.
NASSA was named overall UK Charity of the Year at The Charity Awards 2014 and a finalist in the Children & Young People Now Awards 2021, while founder and Chief Executive Natasha Hart was awarded the MBE for ‘Services to Sport’ in HRH The Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2015. Their latest award was the Create and Thrive Award in the Newham Civic Awards.
NASSA will host its first fundraising dinner on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 6pm-midnight at the Brick Lane Music Hall in Royal Docks. This will be an opportunity to network and to celebrate NASSA’s 20 years of contributing to the local community with our longstanding supporters, including London City Airport, London Excel and Tate & Lyle Sugars. To purchase a full table, half-table or for sponsorship opportunities, please contact Natasha Hart MBE on 07947 401616 or at natasha.nassa@gmail.com.
“When the coach is talking to you, you learn from their experiences and their lives and you are able to put that into your life and work from there. My leadership skills have grown through basketball and through NASSA.” – Sidney Ekio, former NASSA player, now working for a leading Law firm in the City of London
