Women's Safety Consultation

Following the tragic murder of Sarah Everard earlier this year, LLDC has been working to identify ways in which they can improve safety on the Park in the short and longer term. Another tragic murder recently – of teacher Sabina Nessa in south London – has again brought national attention to this critical issue.

Levels of crime on the Park are very low, thanks in no small part thanks to the vigilance of our Park Operations and Security teams and close working with the police.

The Park was the first in the UK to achieve Secured by Design (SbD) accreditation and in our latest survey, 91 per cent of visitors rated their personal safety around the Park as 8 out of 10 or more. Nevertheless, it is important that we are not complacent, which is why they are taking steps to review their approach to safety and develop solutions to issues identified.

We must listen to the experiences of women and girls who use the Park and surrounding area to understand any safety concerns they may have. Which is why they have launched a consultation that provides a heatmap of the wider Mayoral Development Corporation and allows respondents to pinpoint any specific areas where they do or do not feel safe.

This feedback will allow them to prioritise any reactive improvements that can be made to the current estate while also ensuring that the future design, scrutiny and development of new LLDC neighbourhoods explicitly considers safety issues.

The best results will be achieved where we all work together on the solutions.

LLDC has also published a personal safety guide in print and digital form. This guide collates all relevant information on how they are working to keep Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park safe, as well as useful information to have to hand should anyone who visits the Park be concerned about their safety.

Physical copies are being made available in the Park’s Information Point at the IQL Pavilion, and in the receptions of our venues, so do keep an eye out for this if you’re out on the Park.
