We are celebrating #GreenStreetAtNight
Our Newham Business and Enterprise are holding two webinars about how Green Street can become a better place for shopping and leisure at night. Our Newham Business and Enterprise is part of Our Newham, which supports residents into training and employment, promotes financial wellbeing and helps businesses.
Green Street is much loved place to shop during the day. The Council wants to help make it just as nice a place to shop at night as well as somewhere to enjoy an evening out. To do this we want to talk to residents, shop owners, businesses and community groups so that together we can come up with an action plan to make this happen.
Let’s discuss: late night retail opening – art/theatre/music/film events – design and fashion evenings – make-up and personal styling evenings – low cost and flexible business spaces for hire in the evenings – activities such as indoor climbing, skating, football, cricket and basketball – pops-ups and food stalls – ensuring the health and safety of night workers.

The Living Wage Foundation launches the Living Wage Place Scheme to make the Royal Docks a Living Wage Place
The Living Wage Place scheme is an initiative by the Living Wage Foundation which aims to increase the number of Living Wage Employers paying a real Living Wage through a place-based approach.
Newham Council is an active member of the Royal Docks Action Group, which is dedicated to making the Royal Docks a Living Wage Place. The Group will be launching The Royal Docks Action Plan on 12 July at an iconic Royal Docks location, to which every business based in the Royal Docks and anywhere else in Newham is welcome. This is an unmissable opportunity to learn about the business benefits of paying the real Living Wage, as well as to network with businesses which are Living Wage Employers and hear from those who benefit from receiving a real Living Wage.

Investing in Women Code report published
The Investing in Women Code is a commitment to support the advancement of female entrepreneurship in the United Kingdom by improving female entrepreneurs’ access to tools, resources and finance from the financial services sector.
It has published its second annual progress report, the key findings of which include:
- In 2021 34% of venture capital deals made by code signatories were in companies with at least one female founder, compared to an industry average of 24%.
- In 2021 the average amount of early stage investment being sought by all female teams (£791k) was very similar to all male teams (£823k). This is a significant and encouraging change from 2020, when all female teams requested less than 50% of the amounts requested by male only teams.
- The number of code signatories has now reached 160, with a notable increase in the number of venture and growth capital firms joining – they accounted for 34 of the 53 new signatories in the year to 31 March 2022.
