This year it is ever more important to recognise and learn about the history of Black people in light of Black Lives Matter movement and COVID-19.
Our aim is to deliver an engaging, high-quality and accessible programme that explores the adversity that Black people have faced and how their strength, courage and determination has shaped society throughout history.
In light of the social distancing restrictions, the programme will be a mix of digital and physical content. If your proposal is for a physical activity, you will need to demonstrate how it could be easily transitioned to a digital activity.
The digital element of the programme will be presented via the Newham Black History Month website – www.newhamblackhistory.org
We are looking for proposals that address one or more the following strands:
- Activism
- Equality
- Impact on society
- Inclusion, tolerance and respect of differences
- Injustice
- Inspiration
We are particularly interested in receiving proposals that also address:
- Issues facing Black people today
- Young people
- Local and national achievers
- Windrush Generation
- National Health Service
- Intergenerational; ie reminiscence events
- Popular culture; music, hair, food
- Your proposal must include an element of evaluation, although you may be provided with a short questionnaire for participants to complete.
Fee
Up to £1,000 is available for events. The fee should cover all elements of the event including planning, materials, travel, on site event management and evaluation.
Please ensure you carefully consider your technical (audio visual, ICT) requirements in relation to your chosen venue. Some technical equipment is available in Council venues (libraries, community centres and town halls), but these may not be suitable for your event. If technical equipment is required, please indicate on the form (this does not need to be included in your budget).
