A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A STRATFORD AMBASSADOR
Omid has been with the BID since August 2016, just a year after it was established and he is now the ambassador team leader. Ambassadors play an important role for the town centre, being the main mediators between the businesses, the BID, Newham Council, the Police, and other key stakeholders. We asked Omid:
What does a typical day look like as an ambassador?
‘A regular day begins with a patrol of the BID area, walking down each of the streets covered by the BID, making sure the area is as safe and clean as possible. If we come across things that need to be fixed or cleaned, we report direct to Newham Council using the ‘Love Newham’ app via our tablets, businesses and residents can also report issues. Usually, it takes less than 24 hours for the issues to be resolved. Along the route we call into businesses, talk to employees and pick up issues if there are any. Later in the day, we head towards Stratford Station to help people with directions. Our main purpose is to inform and assist businesses based in Stratford town centre.’
What is the one thing you like the most about being an ambassador in Stratford?
‘For me there are a number of things, communicating with different people on a daily basis, the diversity, the relationships you form and participating in events organised by the BID. It was great last summer working on ‘Screen on the Green’ with the World Cup football game England vs Croatia on the big screen seeing the community coming together.’
