Great British High Street Awards 2018

We are extremely pleased that Stratford is London’s first high street to enter The Great British High Street awards this year. Stratford town centre has a diverse, unique and vibrant high street with a mix of independent retailers and well-known brands.

We have created a strong place identity though the introduction of stand-out artwork, wayfinding and creative lighting. Our local businesses deserve the recognition for their efforts in making Stratford’s high street a safer and more welcoming place for all. Stratford town centre was the first high street to be visited by the GBHS team, on their UK tour.

On the 16th July we met with their friendly ambassador team, Jake Berry- the minister for high streets and Newham's new Mayor Rokhsana. On their visit they met with our BID members including; Sawmill, Cafe 19, Broadway Clinic and more. We also showed them our fantastic new murals, our wayfinding scheme and planters. High streets who enter the awards are eligible to win up to £10,000 for their local community, plus the opportunity for their local businesses and consumers to participate in a Visa GBHS Spend & Win Competition, which rewards the people that make our high streets so special. Winners of the GBHS award will be named in each of the four UK nations across two categories: Champion High Street and Rising Star High Street. The Champion High Street category will recognise the nation's best high streets whilst the Rising Star High Street category, sponsored by SumUp, will recognise the nation's most ambitious high streets, which are taking the lead and working together to revive, adapt and diversify. An overall High Street of the Year in Great Britain and Northern Ireland will also be named. Shortlisted finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony in London in November celebrating the high streets that are succeeding and influencing change. Fingers crossed Stratford win this year's awards! For more information on the Great British High Street Awards, visit their website.
