This new initiative brings together Stratford Original, LB Newham and environmental consultants MP Smarter Travel in a collaborative partnership focused on creating a more sustainable and efficient approach to waste collection and management across Stratford town centre.

The Carbon Offset Fund is part of Newham’s broader climate action strategy. It reinvests financial contributions from developments into local projects that reduce carbon emissions and support the Borough’s goal of becoming carbon neutral. We’re delighted to have secured support through this fund to deliver meaningful, practical change that benefits our businesses and the wider community.

As the project progresses, we’ll soon move into the procurement phase, where we’ll explore improved service models and engage with potential waste operators. A key focus will be identifying opportunities for smarter waste consolidation. Previous research we carried out with local businesses revealed that there are currently more than 10 different waste operators working within a small geographic area, resulting in multiple collection trips in and out of the town centre throughout the day.

Over the coming months with our appointed consultants, we will be reaching out to businesses to discuss the next steps. We’ll be listening to your current challenges, exploring practical improvements, and working together to shape a more streamlined and sustainable waste system that works for everyone.

This is a collective effort, and your input will be essential. Together, we can reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency, and take another important step toward a more sustainable Stratford.
